How to Spend a Day at Sea Isle Marina with Children

Bayside Marketplace, at 401 Biscayne Blvd, is an open-air mall right on the waterfront. If you’re looking for tours and excursions, quick eats, gifts, or just want to people watch, this is your place. At the entrance are impressive, huge trees with lawn chairs beneath them in the shade that invite you to sit and relax. The Marketplace itself is filled with stores, restaurants, and ticket booths for walking, bus and boat tours. And in the back is a large Ferris wheel that is a favorite for birds-eye views of the area. Also on the premises, is a large outdoor area with generous shade trees, and views of the nearby harbor, giving the whole area a scenic and park-like vibe. If you want to make a day of it, there are lots of outdoor tables and benches so you and your crew can enjoy a meal alfresco. 1 mile from marina

The timeless Mediterranean-style architecture lets you know you’ve arrived at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, at 3251 South Miami Avenue. This period museum houses collections dating from the early 20th-century all the way back to Pompeii. Vizcaya’s Main House, built between 1914 and 1922, was the crown jewel of a young Miami. More than a century later, Vizcaya is just as relevant. The museum is a cultural destination that draws tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. The lavish villa, surrounded by lush, formal gardens, is a tribute to the Italian Renaissance. And the museum retains much of the original furnishings and artwork. However, before you leave, treat yourself to a delicious goodie at the Vizcaya Museum Café. 5 miles from marina

Miami’s FTX Arena (formerly the American Airlines Arena), at 601 Biscayne Boulevard, is a sports and entertainment multi-purpose arena in the vibrant waterfront setting along Biscayne Bay. It’s also the proud home of the Miami Heat. In addition to edge-of-your-seat basketball, the arena hosts over 80 non-basketball events each year - including family shows, A-list concerts, and sporting events. With so much going on, you can be sure there will be something fantastic whenever you visit. 1.3 miles from marina

LoanDepot Park (formerly Marlins Park), at 501 Marlins Way (NW 16th Avenue), is Miami’s cool retractable-roof baseball park. It’s also the home of the Miami Marlins, the city's Major League Baseball franchise. And with a seating capacity of just over 37 thousand, it’s the third-smallest stadium in Major League Baseball – making it a great size for families with small children. The park also hosts soccer matches and other events during the winter. 3.2 miles from marina

The famed Wynwood Walls, on 266 NW 26th Street, are a must see when you visit Miami. Conceived in 2009, it was a way to completely transform the warehouse district in a big way. The warehouse walls became giant canvases displaying the greatest street art ever seen in one place. And the legendary walls have also brought some of the world’s most celebrated graffiti and street art genre artists to Miami. Since its inception, the walls have showcased over 50 artists representing 16 countries, covering over 80,000 square feet of walls. The walls were featured on the docu-series Here Comes the Neighborhood, which chronicled the creation and evolution of the Wynwood neighborhood. Hailed as the best outdoor park in Miami, the Margaret Pace Park, at 498 NE 20 Street, must be on your vacation “to do” list! This waterfront park is big and beyond beautiful, and every imaginable sport and activity is going on. The park offers free tennis and volleyball courts, walking and jogging trails and workout zones, as well as a large playground. There are even multiple dog park areas in case you have your four-legged family member with you. Or, just visit because you miss yours, and need to get a pet fix. But what you’ll see most are people enjoying the beautifully landscaped area, soaking in the views, enjoying a picnic, reading a good book and just hanging out. .5 miles from marina

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), at 1103 Biscayne Boulevard, is Miami’s flagship art museum. It’s a contemporary and modern art museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. It’s always changing exhibitions that highlight Miami’s diverse community. After you’ve enjoyed exploring the galleries, you can shop at the museum’s gift store. Then, while in the area, you can take a stroll through the elaborate hanging gardens designed by Prize winning architects Herzog & de Meuron.

The Cape Florida Lighthouse, in Bill Baggs State Park at 1200 S. Crandon Boulevard, is an iconic spot. It’s the oldest structure in Miami-Dade and is packed with Florida history. It was built in 1825 and has survived dozens of hurricanes, attacks by native Americans, an explosion and over 200 years of erosion. Climb to the top and you’ll be rewarded with a fabulous 360-degree view of Key Biscayne and Miami. Be sure to put on your comfortable shoes because guests must be able to “climb 109 spiral steps with narrow spaces and heights. Children must be 42 inches tall (106 cm) and able to climb independently. Infants may be carried in a harness with the carrier's arms free to use handrail. Pets are not permitted.” 12.5 miles from marina
